My Personal Journey To Reiki Healing
Jan 25, 2025I first encountered Reiki healing through my work as a massage therapist. I became a Certified Reiki healer in 1995, which was at a time when energy healing was still relatively unknown and misunderstood by many. Although I felt an intuitive “pull” to use energy healing with my clients during a massage session, I often resisted it, fearing it might go against workplace expectations and lead to trouble.
One particular experience stands out from my early years as a healer. In 1999 while working at Spa Chakra in Melbourne, I had a client who came in with significant emotional and physical pain. She was mourning the recent loss of her father, carrying a heavy burden of anger and guilt due to the strained relationship they had while he was alive. As she limped into the Spa, the emotional weight she carried was palpable, and it seemed to manifest physically in her body.
She had booked a remedial massage for lower back pain, but as soon as we began, I felt an overwhelming urge to perform Reiki healing instead. I wasn’t sure if she even knew what Reiki was or if she’d be open to it, but something told me I had to follow my intuition. I paused the massage and asked her if she would be willing to receive a Reiki session. She hesitated but eventually agreed, and I prepared myself for the session, and what was to come, not fully anticipating the transformative experience that lay ahead.
As soon as I began the Reiki session, extraordinary energy filled the room. I felt a powerful flow of energy channeling through me, illuminating the space around us. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I checked in with my client, and she affirmed that she was doing well, so I continued to let the energy flow until it felt balanced. Once the session was complete, I left the room to allow her to redress, then escorted her to the relaxation lounge.
The client who had initially limped into the spa was now walking straight, steady posture. Curious about her experience, I asked how she was feeling. Her response was both surprising and humbling. She said, “I don’t believe in any of this stuff and I have never tried Reiki healing before today. But I felt like someone was reaching into my lower back and unraveling the pain. When I got off that massage table, I was amazed to find the pain was gone and I could stand up straight.”
That session was a profound turning point for me as a healer. It reinforced my trust in the power of Reiki and validated my intuition. It showed me that healing can manifest in ways we might not expect, and sometimes simply being open to the possibilities is all that’s needed. From that moment on, I embraced Reiki healing with confidence, recognising its profound ability to facilitate transformation not only for my clients but also for myself, as a practitioner.
